Digital Story: Rubric

I have played with a lot of kinds of rubrics in my career as a teacher. In the end I am starting to feel that the best form of rubric is "layered curriculum". In my description "layered curriculum" means you have the same expectations for all of your students. The assignment stays the same, but the students are graded on the effort that they put into it. A quality assignments receive an A. If a student creates shortcuts for themselves, does not put as much effort into the assignment, or does not complete it, that is when they will receive a lower grade. Through the use of these kinds of rubrics the students get a concept of what an A really is. There is no longer a race to "finish" their work, but they realize that to receive a good grade they have to put good work into their assignments.

Here is the sample layered curriculum rubric I developed for the Family History Story.
